A META-ANALYSIS OF REMOTE WORKERS’ PRODUCTIVITY

One meta-analysis of remote workers published in 2007 looked at forty-six studies that included more than twelve thousand workers. It found that remote work (called “telecommuting” at the time) increased job satisfaction and worker performance (productivity), while decreasing turnover intent (quitting) and role stress.

The researchers suggest that these positive outcomes are at least partially related to the fact that when employees work remotely, they feel they have more autonomy.
