The fourth aspect of the general realist beliefs, which concerns the antirealist’s skepticism of ontology as being a return to naïve, pre-scientific metaphysical habits of thought, has already been addressed in our discussion of how ontology is not limited to, or eliminated by, epistemology. In other words, the limit of my knowledge, beliefs, or experiences is not the limit of reality. All scientific theories presuppose causality in one way or another, and we should aim to uncover and explain the relevant aspects of causality as they pertain to a particular theory. To deny causality is to deny the possibility of scientific explanation.
