Calendula Suppository

Yields approximately 60 suppositories

2 cups cocoa butter or coconut oil

2 to 4 teaspoons powdered calendula or other herbs

A suppository (bolus) is inserted directly into the vagina (or the rectum for the treatment of hemorrhoids or prostate inflammation). Simple to make, a bolus can be an unusual medicine to create in the kitchen and a great conversation starter when a neighbor stops by and sees you molding long, phallic-shaped rods with your hands. Though the actual application is not fun, it is not unpleasant either, especially when combined with thoughtful care and respectful attention. The soothing results are well worth it.

Follow the instructions in chapter 4: Medicine-Making Methods for making a suppository. Useful herbs for yeast infections include powdered garlic, calendula flowers, witch hazel leaves, goldenseal root, yarrow leaves, Saint-John’s-wort flowers, and pau d’arco. Insert a suppository at bedtime and wear a pad or pantiliner in your underwear to catch leaks. Many women find they need to use one suppository each night for a week. Store these suppositories in the refrigerator where they will keep up to one year.
