INSCRUTABLE PATIENCE

The al Qaeda War Manual, discovered by British police in a raid on an al Qaeda safe house, and translated from Arabic, lists “Patience” as one of the 14 qualifications for membership in the Jihadist organization. “He should be patient in performing the work, even if it lasts a long time.”

In Osama bin Laden’s January 14, 2009 message to the world he provided an insight into Jihadists’ patience, saying al Qaeda was prepared to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq “for seven more years, and seven more after that, then seven more.” In Osama bin Laden’s January 14, 2009 videotape he said: “The Jihad of your sons against the Crusader-Zionist coalition is one of the key reasons for these destructive effects among our enemies. God has bestowed us with the patience to continue the path of Jihad. The question is, can America continue its war with us for several more decades to come? Reports and evidence would suggest otherwise.”

Jihadists trace their struggle to conquer the world for Allah from 632 AD. In light of those many centuries, what’s another year, or two, or ten, in the struggle to place Sharia Law in all nations’ law books and to place the Muslim flag above every capitol city in the world? The confiscated War Manual says the “main mission of the Islamic movement (is to) overthrow godless regimes” and replace them with “an Islamic regime” for the purpose of “establishing the religion of majestic Allah on earth.” The War Manual states: “Islamic governments have never and will never be established through peaceful solutions…They are established as they always have been…by pen and gun…by word and bullet…by tongue and teeth… Islam does not make a truce with unbelief, but rather confronts it. It knows the dialogue of bullets.”

The same al Qaeda War Manual trains members to torture prisoners. “Information is collected by kidnapping the enemy individual, interrogating him and torturing him… Religious scholars have permitted beating… (and) have also permitted the killing of a hostage if he insists on withholding information from Muslims.” Al Qaeda has never adopted the Geneva Conventions.

On January 19, 2006, bin Laden released a lengthy videotape to al-Jazeera to broadcast. In many ways it was his most threatening speech to date. Bin Laden praised his Mujahedin warriors and proclaimed “Jihad is continuing.” Even though he suggested a “long-term truce” with no specifics given, he made his boldest threats yet to America:

“As for the delay in carrying out similar operations in America, this was not due to failure to breach your security measures. Operations are under preparation, and you will see them on your own ground once they are finished, God willing….Days and nights will not go by until we take revenge as we did on 11 September, God willing, and until your minds are exhausted and your lives become miserable and things turn (for the worse) which you detest. As for us, we do not have anything to lose. The swimmer in the sea does not fear rain.
