When Audrey got home she planted her petunias and marigolds. It made her happy to see the brilliant colors in the summer sun. She asked her mom, “What about the bulbs? How do I get the flowers to come out?”

Her mom explained, “You have to wait till the fall to plant bulbs, so we’ll have to be patient.”

Audrey took good care of her flowers all summer. She gave them water on the warm days and loved to show her friends her pretty flowers.

All too soon the summer days became shorter and the nights became colder. One morning Audrey noticed a frost had come during the night. Her pretty summer flowers were gone. She felt sad but her mom said, “Now’s the time to plant the bulbs.”
