Having looked through Kirsty’s photos, Harry wanted to have a quick chat with Liz and Jameson. It wasn’t exactly protocol to include the retired detective, but all things considered, Harry wasn’t too bothered right then.

‘Well,’ Harry said, ‘thanks for your time, Kirsty. We’ll walk you back to the dining room now, if that’s okay?’

‘Is that it?’

‘For now, yes.’

Harry, with Liz behind him, led Kirsty out of the room and back into the dining room. Jameson came over and they stepped into the hall.

‘How are you doing?’ he asked.

Harry asked Liz to pull Kirsty’s photos up on her phone.

‘Look,’ he said, zooming in on the same photo he’d looked at earlier. ‘There …’

Liz and Jameson stared at the image on her phone.

‘What are we looking at?’ Liz asked. ‘I don’t see anything.’

‘Exactly,’ said Harry.

‘Exactly, what?’

‘You don’t see anything, because it isn’t there, is it?’

‘What isn’t?’

‘The knife,’ said Harry. ‘When Kirsty took these photos there was no knife. So, Walsh was still alive.’

‘She could’ve taken the photos before she stabbed him,’ Liz suggested.

‘She could,’ said Harry. ‘But what’s the motive? She’s here because she wants to be a PI after helping her friend with a scammer. All she knows about Walsh is that he’s a bit of a celebrity in the world of crime podcasts or something. Obviously, her story will need to be checked, but right now, it’s not enough, not by a long shot.’

‘Best you get on with interviewing the others, then,’ said Jameson. ‘And me.’
