I offer myself to the Creative Spirit and Muse. Bless and enliven and bring this project into the world. I ask for your clarity, brilliance, and divine assistance to flow through me, and to be a channel for your love, light, and genius.
Then practice a little candle magic. You can light any candle you love, or choose a blue one for commitment, red for the fire of action, or gold for all the wealth and wisdom your project is going to bring into the world. Read your commitment statement out loud to yourself and perhaps a trusted friend . . . and your Creative Spirit . . . and your Muse. Afterward, put your commitment statement into your prayer box!
Beginning At last, after preparing for the journey, you're ready to embark on your great adventure. Your energy is high; you're happyâand sometimes exalted! You're fully prepared. What could stop you now? Beware of anything or anyone who has a more tantalizing idea, project, or even a job. It seems that resistance is greatest at the beginning and end of all projects. Keep your focus and carry on. After all, you made a commitment to your original creative work.
Deep Middle to End Sometimes, in the middle, our energy wanes. We seem to have entered a dry patch and can't find the water. Be sure to continue your morning quiet time practice to fill the well, and remember to ask for guidance in your journal. If you get weary, bored, and things are not making sense, show up for your project anyway. You're committed. You can review your dreams, wishes, and commitment statement from your prayer box. Write another prayer and listen for answers.
At the same time, this period can be a joyous experience and the most satisfying part of the journey. You are now in tune with your project, and it's speaking to you. As you work, you are learning, growing in knowledge, attempting the impossible, and climbing that mountain! Work every day, do not take excessive time off, or you will lose that momentum. This is a sacred time, when you and your Muse are cocreating together.
Reviewing After finishing a day's work, a week's work, step back and take a break. Let the project rest. Then review your work with fresh eyes. I like to review work after a good night's sleep. Remember to view your work with compassion. No, it's not finished yet, but even in its awkward stages, you don't harshly criticize. Like you do with a preteen or teenager who goes through a time of great bodily changes, complete with acne and braces, you just give that child love and reassure her that she is beautiful.
Revising Writers sometimes do twenty drafts of their work. Ask for help from qualified people. This is a good time to enlist a trusted teacher, creativity coach, writing group member, fellow student, or editor to assist in reviewing your book.
Completing Ask the question, âIs this project complete for now?â As Eric Maisel
