If you’re encouraging someone to go ahead and make a decision, it’s also crucial that you let them know that you will accept whatever decision they make. That doesn’t mean only accepting it if you agree with it.

They’ll also need to believe that you will not hold it over their head if it doesn’t work out. Remember, you want to impress on them that some decisions turn out to have been wiser than others in retrospect. When that happens, we make the best of things and move on.
