Home Sweet Home
Mel
It was moving day at last, and our coven split up to tackle the massive task. Nico and Hudson were at their old places packing up. Iâd already brought my stuff out West weeks ago, and Jax had already packed up his apartment.
Since the two of us were ready for the move, Jax and I went to our brand-new coven-house to make sure it was clean and prepared for us to move in. Naturally, Tempest accompanied me.
Iâd said my goodbyes to the Roost weeks ago, and Iâd felt a little homeless ever since. But as soon as we toured the new coven-house, it seemed to click for all of us. This was it.
The previous tenants had outgrown the coven-house now that they were raising more children, and weâd been happy to buy it from them. It was the perfect size for us with four bedrooms upstairs â one for each of us â and a shared bedroom downstairs for all of us. We planned to put a huge bed in there, but we hadnât bought it yet. There would be a lot of shopping trips in our near future.
Jax and I pushed open the front door.
âWelcome home, kitten!â
âI canât really believe this is ours!â I gave him a peck on the lips before rushing inside.
Tempest jumped down from my backpack and took off on her own exploration, the lightning flashing in her tail.
Unlike when weâd toured the house before, it was now empty and waiting for us to move in. I expected a lot more dust and grime, but it seemed like it was completely move-in ready.
âDid they have a hearth witch in their coven?â I wondered.
âMust have,â Jax mused as we went from room to room, only to find them perfectly swept, mopped, and sparkling clean.
âAll clean here,â Tempest confirmed from downstairs. âNot even any friendly soot left in the fireplace.â
I followed Jax back downstairs into the kitchen, which was huge compared to the Roost or any of our individual places. It had countertops for days, plenty of space for Jax to roll up his sleeves and get to work with all the niche kitchen appliances he owned. Iâd seen them when I visited his place before heâd packed up, and I didnât even know what some of them did.
When weâd first toured the house and heâd seen the giant range hood over the stove, Jax had been elated.
Hudson had thumped him on the back. âHeâll be able to use his wok without needing my magic to deal with the smoke and flames.â
âThat happened one time!â Jax had protested.
I grinned just remembering it. The fridge was enormous. There were two big ovens built into the wall, but the six-burner stove stole the show for Jax.
With the kitchen, Iâd been most excited about the granite island where we could all gather round and keep Jax company while he worked his magic. Of course, we would probably buy a giant table to fill the big dining room off of the kitchen.
