Chapter 9
Noelle
By the time we got back to my house, I was pleasantly buzzed. And no, my tipsiness wasnât due to the amount of spiked hot cocoa Iâd consumed.
Well, okay, that was one of the reasons.
The second one? It had everything to do with Dax and this thing that had been brewing between us all night. The tension that had started the moment Iâd walked in on him half-naked with his tattoos on full display. The tension had grown even stronger when Iâd looked down that expanse of incredibly gorgeous skin to see his smooth, defined chest and equally defined abs. From there, the bulge in his jeans had told me that heâd noticed me noticing him.
And heâd liked it.
Weâd both gotten out of that room as quickly as humanly possible. Thank goodness he received the call from his captain because we were obviously dancing with trouble. But then, during the Fireside Hangout, the tension had returned. It was there when he slipped his finger down my jaw. There when I leaned into him like a cat anxious for scratching. There when heâd kissed me toward the end of the night, up against the wall.
And that right there, the buzz in my brain from the alcohol and the answering buzz in my veins from Dax himself, was the only excuse I had for what I did the moment we were through the door and in my houseâwhere weâd agreed we should come, just to keep up appearances.
I turned, closed the door, and then pushed Dax up against the wall and kissed him. For real, this time, and just for us. Not because we had an audience. Not because Jon was there and we were trying to make him jealous or because Daxâs mom was watching and we needed to keep up appearances or because someone else had come to congratulate us and had insisted on us giving each other a kiss.
No, this time, as I pressed up against him, bringing my entire body into contact with his and reveling in every square inch of his hard form, my mouth on his and my hands in his hair, I was doing it all for myself. And for him. Because Iâd seen his eyes all night, and Iâd seen how much he wanted to kiss me.
For real. Not as fake boyfriend and girlfriend.
He broke away and frowned down at me. âAre you sure?â he asked, breathing heavily, his eyes dark with desire. âThis will⦠Itâll change everything, Noelle.â
âYes.â I kissed him again, opening my mouth and inviting him in, pulling his hands down to cup my ass and running mine back up his chest. He didnât have to ask, though, I was glad he had. It proved he was a gentleman.
But I was sure. Yes, I was half-drunk and buzzed on being around him all night, but that didnât change the fact that I knew what I was doing. I wanted him. And I wasnât planning to take no for an answer.
This was Dax.
