Chapter Twelve

‘What a story. You couldn’t make it up,’ Trent pulled up in the car park of the castle. ‘Are you okay to film today? I can leave it...’ he looked concerned.

‘No, no, I’m fine. It was just a shock to see it with my own eyes, but I’m fine,’ she plastered on a smile relieved that she had someone with her when it happened as it would’ve no doubt happened eventually, and she didn’t want to be alone with her thoughts when it did. ‘I feel a little embarrassed, sorry,’ she buttoned up her coat and went to open the door.

‘Hey,’ he placed a hand on her knee. ‘You were there for me yesterday and I’m glad to return the favour,’ he laughed. ‘Look at us, we’ve known each other merely hours and we’ve already seen each other at our worst... It usually takes a lot longer...’

‘Yeah, try twenty-years.’

They both laughed. ‘Yeah, it took you twenty years, and you still don’t know him. Come on,’ he said looking out the window at the grand building. ‘I’ll buy a coffee and we’re going to have a fantastic day. The past is staying in the past, okay?’

Trent was right, and she knew it. She didn’t know Tom like she thought and if today was anything to go by proved it. She stepped out of the van and grabbed her bag before closing the door. ‘Yes, sir. It stays where it is.’

‘This place is amazing... It’s so old,’ he said, hands on hips and staring at the building if it were made of solid gold.

‘They don’t have old stuff in America?’ she asked, a look of confusion on her face. ‘I’m sure there’s been dinosaur bones found there...’

Trent burst out laughing. ‘Yes, but not old castles like this. This is something else,’ he got out his phone to snap pictures. ‘This is history... it’s culture... Come on,’ he gestured her to join him.

‘Oh, you don’t want a picture of...’

Before she could protest, he’d grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in close, snapping the picture before she had a chance to run. Within seconds, she had a ping on her phone to say she’d been tagged in an IG post.

‘Gotcha!’ he said and slung his camera bag over his arm. ‘I’m just going to shoot a couple of B rolls and then we’ll just film whatever comes naturally. Is that all right with you?’

‘Totally all right. Need a hand?’

‘Sure, there’s a handheld camera in the bag if you want to vlog or anything.’

Whilst Trent began filming, Jodie checked her phone. There were loads of notifications from IG, one from Sarah who was asking questions about the recent picture she’d seen commenting that they made a lovely couple. Jodie rolled her eyes cursing the day she met her but gave her a ‘like’ just to shut her up. Bloody hell, she thought she’s on the ball but the most intriguing was an email from National Geographic saying that they love her picture and would like to do a little article on her to accompany the picture if she’s willing.
