More Than Enough

ROMAN

The car ride to Ryder Bay is fast and silent. Vincent pushes the speed limit, no doubt eager to get to his girl.

He’s always been super protective of her, probably because of the way they first met. The beginning of their relationship was one crisis after another, but it cemented them together. Rahn told me Chloe and Vincent are soul mates who will be together forever.

I replied that we’re soul mates too.

But this is our first real crisis.

And I don’t know what to feel.

Rahn’s pregnant.

Shit.

I should have been more careful. My brain is scrambling back through our times together, trying to figure out when it might have happened. I’m not exactly an expert on pregnancy. I have no idea how many weeks along she is.

Will she go for an abortion?

Do I want her to do that?

I squeeze my eyes shut and berate myself. It’s not about me. I mean, yeah, the kid is mine, but she’s the one who has to carry it.

The kid is mine.

My eyes pop open and bulge wide as I stare at the road ahead of me.

What if she doesn’t want an abortion?

What if she wants to keep it?

That’ll make me a dad.

Can I do that?

I scrape my fingers through my hair, feeling more useless and incapable than I ever have in my life.

“You all right, man?” Vincent glances at me.

I mutely nod, but can’t look at him.

The fact that Rahn ran away without even telling me such earth-shattering news scares me a little. Does she not want me to be part of this? Why didn’t she come to me?

Soul mates don’t lie to each other…do they?

I hate the fact that we were walking around, holding hands on our date night, and she was no doubt being eaten alive with worry, coming up with some Christmas excuse to shield me from the ball-busting news that I’d knocked her up. She bore it all in silence, trying to put on a brave smile for my sake.

I could have helped her and supported her.

Maybe she thought I’d freak out.

Or maybe she was angry with me, blaming me for forcing her into having sex.

I squeeze my eyes shut, repulsed by that idea.

I didn’t do that.

I relive our first time for a brief moment. She’d been nervous, but keen. I know she wanted to. I even stopped a few times to double-check, to make sure it was exactly what she wanted.

It had been.

That magical moment had awakened something inside of both of us—an insatiable thirst for the other.

We were meant to be together in that way. In every way.

She’s my magic, and I can’t live without her.

Scrubbing a hand over my mouth, I feel the strength of my resolve rocket through me.

No matter what we have to face, I know this without a doubt—I want Rahn to be my woman forever.

Baby or not.

But will she still want me?

A thought suddenly occurs to me as Vincent follows the curve of the hill and we descend toward the ocean.

Her parents.

Shit.

They'll throw a total hissy fit over this.
