Chapter Seven
Max woke in his bed, in his house, in his room. Is it morning? Did he sleep the whole night through? Oh, goshâ¦did he miss his newâ¦his newâ¦whatever they were, are they friends? Or is he in dream land? He was so confused, wearing a frown he swung his legs around and climbed out of bed. He slid his superhero slippers on and headed downstairs, holding to the banister. This was so confusing and he wasnât sure if it was the insecurity or he was in dream land but he felt a little bit light-headed and felt like he needed to hold on for a bit of extra support. He stopped on the bottom step and listened intently to see if he could hear any voices, maybe his mum talking to his dad or maybe Regan telling James that she was having the last blueberry muffin his mum baked yesterday, but he heard nothing; maybe he did sleep the whole night after all. This made him feel a little disappointed because he wanted to get training under way, maybe then he will feel better in dreamland, maybe then he will have some answers to his endless list of questions. But when he turned the corner to the kitchen, after making it down off that last step of the stairs and turned to walk through the living room, he saw them â the dream jumpers; all sat at the table and on the same chairs they were sitting in the night before. He actually felt a bit of relief that he wouldnât have to wait forever to see them all again. He was relieved and happy, he had questions and he needed answers because he felt like he was going insane.
Again, there was an eerie silence hanging over them as he looked at all the faces that were looking back at him; the silence continued whilst they all watched him walk in and resume his position on the chair he was sitting on, to the right of Blake the night before. For what felt like an eternity, no one spoke. Max just looked down at the table, trying to think of what to say. Then Christina broke the silence and said, âAre you OK, sweetie?â she asked in her sweet American accent. He looked up to her and she smiled at him and revealed some very small cracks at the corners of her eyes, they were wrinkles, were they wrinkles last night? Max wondered to himself, he would have never said that out loud.
Max cleared his throat and declared, âIâm fine, thank you.â And looked back down at the table with his hands folded neatly together in his lap. He felt severely uncomfortable. No one said anything in the few seconds following, so Max added, âI just have so many questions to ask.â
Charles was the one that spoke this time. âDear, boy, all of your questions will be answered in due course. We all still have questions and there will
