Wolfe woke the next morning with sun warming his face and Miguel curled in his arms. His lean body bent around the burlier man, his face tucked in Miguel’s auburn curls. He sighed, tightening his arm around Miguel and brushing his lips along his bare shoulder.

“Mm. Good morning,” Miguel whispered, rolling over in Wolfe’s arms and glancing into his sleepy face.

“Morning.” Wolfe kissed Miguel’s nose, heart fluttering as Miguel looked into his eyes. He grunted.

“How are you feeling? How’s your hand?”

“Swollen, but fine. I need to stretch it.”

Miguel nodded, burrowing his face in Wolfe’s arm. “I can get some ice in a moment.”

“Nah. It’s fine, really.” Wolfe chuckled. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” He poked his head back out, cheeks flaming. “I enjoyed sleeping next to you is all.”

“Oh. Yeah, I enjoyed sleeping next to you, too. Sorry I fell asleep so early.”

“It’s okay. You had an eventful night beating up bullies and being social.” Miguel smiled, propping himself up on his elbow.

“Indeed. But I have to make it up to you.” Wolfe pet Miguel’s wild hair, combing it around his ears. The backs of his fingers skimmed over his burning skin.

“You don’t, really.” Miguel’s cheeks heated up more. “Let me get you something for your hand.” He tossed the covers aside and stood.

“No, you don’t.” Wolfe grabbed Miguel’s arm, yanking him back into the bed. “Why are you so nice?”

“What?” Miguel tilted his head, sighing as he crawled back into the bed and resumed his post beside Wolfe. “What do you mean?”

“I mean what I said. Why are you so nice?”

Miguel shrugged, eyes leaving Wolfe’s face to look down at his bare chest. “Is it a problem?”

“No,” Wolfe’s lips tugged into a light smile. “It’s not a problem. I’m just wondering why.”

“Because I like being nice, and it’s easier than being mad at the world.”

“You know, being too nice is like being too mean. It’s a way to guard yourself against others.”

“Is it really?”

Wolfe nodded, fingers cradling Miguel’s strong jawline. He sank back into the mass of pillows on Miguel’s full-size bed, guiding Miguel closer. “Being too agreeable, avoiding being open, avoiding getting what you really what.” His voice dropped lower, a soothing rumble as he fused their lips together. Wolfe had gotten skilled at stamping down emotions, but Miguel buoyed them back to the surface. Each kiss opened the floodgates and emotions swirled through him.

“Maybe.” Miguel whispered against Wolfe’s lips.

“What do you really want?” Wolfe’s hand traveled from the base of Miguel’s skull down his corded neck. Fingernails dented Miguel’s skin before Wolfe went back up, resting his hand just under his hairline. Miguel sucked his bottom lip.

“You. I want you.” Miguel choked on his words, the last syllables coming out in a raspy tone.

“You have me.” Wolfe reminded him, dragging him into another sound kiss. He pushed the other man into the bed, moving on top of him, placing one hand on either side of Miguel. Wolfe’s fingers buried in the sheets as he bent over him, planting a
