And the rain fell heavy,

carrying hope in its hands.

I’d rather poetry in my hair

and paint beneath my feet

than caviar on the table

and jewels forever to keep.

(The miracle remains) I can actually say, for a season of my life, I painted rainbows for a living—rainbows paid my bills while paint filled my soul.

Yes, wisdom is a must, when unraveling in spaces and places with vulnerability and our art. But I’ll call it a disloyalty to our nature, if we wait until it’s safe to reveal our hearts.

What a catastrophe, if we never allow our hearts to explore risk.
