When the fireman came out of the house, the crowd shouted excitedly, “Hooray! You saved little Tommy!”

Soon Mrs Brown was holding the slightly bewildered Tommy in her arms. His little eyes blinked and blinked as to what all the fuss was about. The fire was soon put out, and not much damage was done.

The Captain said to Mrs Brown, “It was lucky that the front door was open. Otherwise, we would have had to break it down”.

“Oh no,” said Mrs Brown “The door was locked, but Billy climbed through the cat flap and got the key. We got the door open just as you arrived. Billy is the real hero!” Mrs Brown said with a big smile on her face.

“Well,” said the Fire Captain, “seems like you saved the day, Billy! Well done!”

“Thank you, Captain. I was just glad to help,” Billy said, brushing himself down.
