Call professional organizations in your industry. Speak to peers with like businesses in other areas of the country. Ask about the productivity goals that they set. Meet with local area business people, regardless of industry, and get a general picture of what they require from their sales representatives.
Let go of thinking that your goals have to be perfect or you can’t set them at all. Use a combination of research, information from other business people, and your solid instincts. Remember, no goal has to be permanent and they are always adjustable.
