Simple configuration

Extremely rapid convergence due to DUAL (Diffusing Update Algorithm)

Multiple protocol support (EIGRP supports IP, IPv6, IPX, and AppleTalk)

Communication between routers using multicast and unicast instead of broadcast (EIGRP uses the multicast address of 224.0.0.10)

EIGRP uses a sophisticated metric to make routing decisions based on bandwidth and delay by default. It can also consider reliability, loading, and maximum transmission unit size.

In order to configure EIGRP, you must identify the EIGRP autonomous system number, which is shared amongst all routers. You must also identify the networks that will participate in the EIGRP routing process.
