We most often acquire faith through experience. The importance of faith cannot be stressed enough. The act of desiring faith will lead you to experiences that will give you the faith you seek. Faith produces an elevated state of the imagination. This superior type of imagination allows us to see things that are not yet visible to the physical eye. It strengthens the will and keeps doubts away. Faith gives us focus. Faith gives us trust, security, and an open mind. We believe we will be guided toward that which is best for us and we will be.

Rule 5:

PERSISTENCE REAPS RESULTS

Persistence builds strength around your thoughts. It is the ability to keep pursuing your goals despite adversities. It means not giving up no matter what possible impediments must be overcome. For example, you cannot focus, concentrate, or visualize. Maybe you get discouraged because you cannot see results, lose faith, feel it is too hard, or want to give up.

How many times have you started something and not finished it? At the beginning you were excited, energetic, determined, and upbeat. It could have been learning a foreign language, dancing the tango, playing the piano, or any other pursuit. Then, in time, interest waned and you quit. Later on did you say to yourself, you wished you had persisted?

Persistence is required to become proficient in anything, be it a carpenter, electrician, court reporter, athlete, artist, or musician. In order to use the power of thought you must visualize your objective over and over again until it is realized. Thought becomes alive through clarity, intensity, and repetition. The persistence of the thinker gives the thought energy. This energy, when clearly directed, reaps results.

Janet

You may not be aware that it is easier to walk on water than to obtain a lease for a rent-stabilized apartment in New York City. Everyone will tell you that you are living in a fantasy if you say that you are looking for one. My client, Janet, proved that sometimes, if you don’t give up, fantasies become realities.

Janet came to New York from Ohio to be an actress. Her dream was to be on Broadway and live in Greenwich Village. She had grown up seeing movies about New York City. Her favorite— Funny Face —took place in New York’s Greenwich Village. The movie, starring Audrey Hepburn, had made an indelible impression on her. Greenwich Village seemed exciting, romantic, artsy, fun; in short, where everything was happening.

Janet came to New York and received a rude awakening. There were almost no apartments available in Greenwich Village and those that were came with exorbitant prices. She put her dream on hold and took a studio apartment in Flushing, Queens.

Like many struggling actresses Janet got a job as a waitress. Flexible hours made it possible to attend classes and go to auditions. She never for one moment gave up her belief that she would be successful in her career and get an apartment in Greenwich Village. She asked everyone she met if they knew of any rent-stabilized apartments available.
