When I get home, I switch into speed-cleaning mode. Most importantly, I strip my sheets and put fresh ones on.

I may have had to take things into my own hands—literally—when I was thinking about Tessa last night. I couldn’t help myself. The idea of those full lips wrapped around my cock while her big brown eyes stared up at me, full of lust—damn. If I stay on this train of thought, I’m going to have to jerk off again.

I shouldn’t get my hopes up. The chances I’m going to be sleeping alone are pretty damn high.

But on the off chance something happens, I’d rather be prepared.

I order the pizza, realizing that I never asked her what toppings she likes. I opt for plain cheese. It might not be her favorite, but at least she should be able to eat it regardless of any dietary restrictions.

As I’m waiting for delivery, I check the rest of the house with a critical eye. Thankfully, the place is clean, so I don’t have a lot to do.

The doorbell dings, and my heart speeds up at the thought of Tessa standing on my doorstep.

“I’m so glad you could make it,” I say as I swing the door open.

“Uh, thanks, Mr. R, but it’s kind of my job,” says a kid with the pizza in his hands. I immediately recognize him as a student at Lincoln.

“James?”

“Hey. You ordered pizza?” He holds it up as if I’ve proven myself irretrievably stupid, and he has to resort to communicating in short words and gestures.

“Oh, yeah, of course,” I say, digging out my wallet to pay for the pizza and a ten-dollar tip.

James apparently developed more respect for my intellect now that he’s gotten his tip. “Thanks, Mr. R!” he says happily. “Enjoy your pizza.”

“Have a good night, James,” I say.

I’m relieved that Tessa didn’t arrive during this particular conversation. I take the pizza inside and go into the kitchen for plates as the doorbell rings once more.

I’m more circumspect about opening the door this time. Just my luck, it’ll be James again, and I don’t want to make an idiot of myself a second time. Fortunately, this time it’s a gorgeous dark-haired reporter instead of a slightly patronizing seventeen-year-old.

“Hey,” she says. The brisk, matter-of-fact tone she uses professionally is noticeably absent, and her voice is soft and a little nervous.

“Come on in,” I say, swinging the door open. “Thanks for coming.” It sounds too formal for the situation, but I can’t figure out what to say to make it sound more natural.

Tessa tips her chin up. “Do I smell pizza?”

“Just got here,” I tell her. I gesture towards the table.

“Oh, god, is it from Dom’s?” she says, a pleading note entering her voice.

“Of course,” I say. “Everyone knows Dom’s has—“

“—the best pizza in town!” she finishes in unison with me. “Thank you! My friend Alyssa insists that it’s Benny’s.”

“Maybe if you’re a teenager,” I scoff. “My students love that place. I don’t get it. How can you love a crust that doughy?”

“I knew you were a man of refined tastes,” she says with a grin.
