2. An old legend tells of a Warwickshire hill, Meon Hill, being the work of the devil. The devil took a huge clod of earth and threw it at a new abbey in Evesham in the eighth century. Saint Egwin used prayer to protect the abbey and the clod fell short. It became Meon Hill. The body of old Charles Walton was found at the foot of Meon Hill.

3. The appearance of a black dog is a sign of the devil being in the area. Some people believe that the devil can take the shape of a black dog.

4. The cross shape (cut into the throat) was a Christian sign to stop the devil from raising a witch from the dead.
