I do this for two reasons. First, sharing my goal creates instant accountability. In Running Man: A Memoir of Ultra-Endurance,6 author Charlie Engle recounts how he transformed from overweight and out of shape into an ultramarathon-running beast by openly sharing his ambitions. After openly posting his intent on social media, Charlie felt like he had to finish. Undoubtedly, accountability is a powerful motivator.
Freely sharing your goal of writing a book will create immediate accountability. Your brain will remind you, “Dude, you have to finish! There are too many people counting on you. Quitting is not an option.” The joy of public success and the fear of public failure are powerful motivators. So go ahead and tell everyone you are writing a book. Post it on social media, talk about it often, and wear the title writer as a badge of honor.
