Stage 2 - Establishing and building rapport
I have already covered the importance of using your voice in the most effective manner possible, but I wish to reiterate that your voice is the only way in which the prospect is able to judge you. Because time is also a pressure on the telephone you need to be able to build rapport quickly. So here are some ways you can do this:
· Don’t shout and don’t talk too quietly.
If you shout down the line the hearer will be put off. Conversely if you are too quiet they will walk all over you. The voice must convey a great deal. The first few seconds are vital for the right impression: warm, friendly, alert and wanting to communicate effectively.
