DON’T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!

I have a friend who is a true believer in sunscreen. She wasn’t always. She considered it extremely overrated. That is, until she allowed her beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed toddler to spend a few hours at the beach without it. An afternoon spent splashing in the cool waves and building sandcastles resulted in one very miserable, blistered child that evening.

Parents find themselves spending a lot of time slathering the thick cream all over their children in an effort to protect tender skin against painful sunburn. It also serves as a precautionary step against the damaging long-term effects of harsh sun exposure.

Likewise, instilling Godly values regarding sex is like saturating your child’s heart with a layer of protection against a permissive sexual culture. It’s not that they won’t feel some heat when exposed to the things that contradict your values, but with the protection it offers they’ll be less likely to get burned and suffer future harm.

So, when you walk along the path with your child, don’t forget your values. Apply generously and reapply as necessary.
