Chapter Fifteen

Charlie and the other women sat around the bonfire a few nights later, just talking and drinking beer.

The back door crashed open, making them all jump and turn that way.

“Girls, get in here now,” Feral said as he looked around the backyard.

“Why? There are men out here with us,” Meg said.

Feral growled, stomped toward her, and threw her over his shoulder. He smacked her ass a few times when she started yelling.

“Babe, shut the fuck up,” he whispered. “We had a few sensors go off telling us we might have had a breach. Now get the fuck in the house but try to act casual. We don’t want to tip them off that we know.”

Kristina laughed and grabbed onto Charlie’s hand. “Who wants to play poker?”

They all said me and started for the house.

Charlie tried not to look back when she felt the little hairs on the back of her neck stand up. She was tempted to run but kept it at a leisurely walk with the rest of the girls.

Once they made it into the house, they all breathed a sigh of relief.

“I want you all in the back TV room. It doesn’t have windows.”

They all nodded and headed that way. A few guys were sitting around, but otherwise, they had the room to themselves.

“Where’s Taz?” Charlie asked. “I want to know where he is.” Her heart wouldn’t settle until she knew he was okay. It had been hours since she’d seen him.

“We all want to know where our men are, but we rarely do,” Alicia said. “The way we help them is to do what we’re told. Then they don’t have to worry about us.”

“How much longer is this shit going to go on?” Willow said. “Why the fuck can’t they find Rock?”

Charlie saw the confusion on all their faces. She’d only been there a few days, and she already felt stifled. She couldn’t imagine being like this for weeks, or God forbid, months.

“Come over here to the table. I’ve got an idea,” Willow said.

“Oh, hell, that’s never good,” Meg said.

“Shut up.”

They crowded around the table. “How many of you can shoot a handgun?”

Everyone but Kristina raised their hands.

They all looked at Charlie. “My grandfather taught me.”

“It doesn’t matter. I think we should all carry one at all times.”

“Fuck, Stone will go ballistic,” Alicia said.

Willow sighed. “They all will, but we have to be able to protect ourselves. I know there are a lot of guys around that will do that, but sometimes they get distracted.”

“Where do we get the guns?” Charlie asked.

“There’s a shed out back. I know the combination. The next time we’re in the backyard, you guys cover for me while I go get a few of them and bullets.”

Meg snorted. “How much trouble are we going to get in?”

“Probably a lot, but I have a sick feeling we’re going to need them sooner rather than later,” Willow said.

Charlie looked up when someone walked into the room and almost groaned when she saw Candy standing there glaring at her.
