Chapter Seven – Felicity

Danger felt as if it crept closer and closer all the while, and the fear writhed through Felicity, strong and bright as the moment when she discovered her stalker. Coupled with the fact that she’d been stuck in Horace’s house the whole time added to the tension, because frankly, she never expected to quite get to know her boss up this close.

Including some of the more annoying habits he had in the morning, and his terrible diet, where he consumed ridiculous amounts of food and yet somehow stayed thin as a rake, whereas Felicity would bloom into a potato if she ate the same things. He also had some feminine products tucked into his bathroom drawers, gathering dust, which told her he wasn’t really one for inspecting the drawers or cleaning them, necessarily. He hired a cleaner to help deal with accumulated mess as well, and it took her by surprise when the maid came over the first time around.

Sure, okay, she understood on a level that he was busy, always looking into work, even from home, but would it kill him to do some of his own laundry once in a while?

However, she also found things about Horace that were… attractive. Like that one time where she struggled to fall asleep, and he ended up reading a passage from a book to her, just so she could doze off. He wasn’t the best reader, but his low and gruff voice helped lull her into that dreamless state, and overall, she wasn’t complaining.

Then there happened to be the fact that he was attentive, and protective, and considerate. He helped stock up on some new materials, happily went into the shop to get tampons for her when a monster period decided to make itself known (along with painkillers, of course), and he seemed genuinely interested in everything about her. Even though she didn’t feel like a particularly interesting person.

“So you were stuck in a mountain?” he asked, sitting opposite her, wearing a turtleneck sweater she’d recommended for him in a catalog and he went ahead and bought. Just like that. “Thick fog, no rescue for miles?”

“Yeah. My friends were hysterical. We didn’t have a signal, didn’t alert any rangers that we were in the vicinity, and a thick fog descended on us when we were just considering pushing on or trying to build a camp, though we didn’t have any of the proper protective gear. Might’ve just frozen to death if we went through with that plan.”

“No offense but you all sound really stupid…” He grinned as he listened anyway, green eyes wide and attentive.

“We weren’t the smartest, no. Just did it on a whim. Our energy drinks and snacks didn’t last so long, either. Marty started crying that we were all going to slip and die, and it was getting dark… but I was able to use my magic. Saw our path like a shimmering golden thread in the air, bright as day. Got everyone to follow
