Six Months Later
Tank had just ordered his third beer when the pretty brunette bartender leaned across the counter and in almost a whisper she said, âYouâve been coming in here for about four years now. In that time Iâve been through about five horrible men. So I have to ask, before I pick the next loser...are you ever going to ask me out, or at least tell me your name?â
Tank was shocked. He supposed, like Coyote, heâd been the only one who hadnât noticed how he looked at the sexy young bartender. She was the one heâd been planning on asking out the night he got the desperate call from Brenda, and heâd had to go find Molly. Since then, heâd only been in the bar a handful of times and in his mind, the bartender had looked right through him each time. Tank looked down at his kutte and she said, âNot that name. Youâre big, I get it. They call you Tank,â she said, rolling her eyes. âSo original. I want to know what your mama and daddy named you.â
âElijah,â he said. âElijah Warren.â
âHi, Elijah,â she said, holding out a hand that was connected to a wrist draped in bracelets. âIâm Carmen.â
Tank knew her name, but he took her hand and said, âNice to meet you, Carmen.â
âSo?â she said, leaving her hand in his. âWe going out, or what?â
Tank hadnât taken a woman âoutâ since Brenda, and that seemed like decades ago. He was barely thirty years old, but the past eight had taken their toll, and he already felt like an old man. He had sex, pretty regularly at the club, but he was beginning to give up hope heâd ever have more than that. Nervously he said, âSure, where you wanna go?â
Her smile grew wider. She was really pretty. Her hair was shoulder length and feathered back away from her pretty face. Her eyes were light brown and she had exactly the kind of body that Tank liked, healthy and round on the bottom. âYou ever been to Good Vibrations?â Tank had been there, many times. He was, however, surprised that was where Carmen might want to go on a date. It was a topless bar, and where Badger had met two of his drug-addled girlfriends in the past four years.
âYeah, I been there.â
âI get off at ten tonight...you interested?â
âYou want to go to Good Vibrations, with me?â he asked, just to clarify.
She giggled. âYeah,â she said, giving him a sexy wink. âWe might even get lucky.â She sashayed away then, back to work, and left Tank to wonder what she meant by âwe.â
