Chapter 8

TAKLUN

“Anya, I want you to hide within the interior of the ship. Go to your room and try to hide inside the closet there. I don't want you following me because I don't know what they're going to do once we leave the ship," I tell her.

She stifles a cry and throws herself at me, her arms reaching around my neck.

"Please, Taklun, I don't want to lose you now. What will become of me if something happens to you?" She asks as she looks into my eyes.

"I’ll do my best to be diplomatic and get us out of the situation as soon as possible. I have at my disposal a lot more firepower than they do, and a great system of warriors who would come to our rescue immediately. The transmitter has already alerted our systems to this so they will be on standby. There is also a time limit, so if they don't hear back from us soon they will come," I add. At least I hope my people will come to our aid. I didn't exactly leave on the best of terms.

The comm lights up. The captain of the Lotiis ships fills the screen. "We wish to see the captain of the ship only. Please, Capt. Taklun, step forward from the hatch. Only you need to leave the ship.” Okcok tells me. They know my crew will not leave me behind so at least I have that.

Anya grabs my arm as we walk towards her room. "Please, Taklun, no. What if they kill you?" she pleads.

"Why would they want to kill me? Why would they bring me all the way here just to end my life? They know that there'd be a war on their hands. They know my crew inside the ship will fight to the last warrior to defend their captain. They also know that the captain will stay with the ship no matter what. While my entire crew might be lost in a battle, many of them will be killed as well. They would be signing their own death warrants, in other words. Please don't worry, I don't believe this is going to end in a terrible way," I try to comfort her. We pause outside her room’s doorway.

She tiptoes up to me, her arms encircling my neck. I lean down a little, pressing my lips to hers. "Trust me, alright?"

"I don't know what to do if something happens to you. I don't have a good feeling about this," Anya replies.

"Trust me, this will come to a diplomatic resolution. The Lotiis are not entirely bad. There must be something else going on for them to take such drastic measures as to force us to land here. I just need to go see what they have in mind. Now please, hide yourself. We'll figure out what to do later, I promise," I tell her.

Anya closes her eyes as the door opens. "Please, Taklun, be careful. I want you to come back to me.”

Her words give me enough inspiration to want to make it back to her.
