Watch what the Syrians do, and eat as they do:

The food is served and eaten communally, and diners are provided with small individual plates onto which they transfer small helpings of every dish, though some prefer to eat directly out of the shared bowls.

Although knives and forks are usually provided (at least in restaurants), many foods are eaten with the help of the flat bread that’s provided with every meal: diners tear off small pieces and use them to scoop up the food.

If you are dining from a communal plate, it’s polite to scoop only from the side nearest to you.

When eating, always use your right hand (never your left).
