RICKI

Fuck, that is not the way I thought this day was going to go.

I'm tossing these boxes around with a vengeance, trying to get the storeroom into order. What is she, some kind of pool shark? Shit, I should've seen that coming. That girl is just full of surprises.

Plus, I think Claudio sorta distracted me.

But I gotta hand it to her though, that was a pretty sweet play. She's got those twiggy arms, so I didn't think she was going to be able to do anything on the break. Now I have the sneaking suspicion that was somehow a trap.

But I know she wants me. It's just a matter of time. As soon as she told be she was definitely not gay… yeah. I knew. Those uptight girls come the hardest.

Fuck, at least I hope so. She better be worth waiting for, or I am gonna explode.

There's actually some good stuff back here, not just that rotgut they got up front. Maker’s Mark, Glenfiddich… a whole lot of Grand Marnier for some reason.

But it’s all in disarray. I bet Jazz doesn’t even know what’s here. The distributor just used any old box for the deliveries, just to keep it all together I guess. It takes a couple hours to get everything organized and labeled, then checked up on the spreadsheet which I swear nobody's used in about two years. Why did I even set that shit up? It's just a spreadsheet, people! It's not rocket surgery!

Which is funny. My CO used to say that all the time, “rocket surgery.” The first time I heard it, it just sort of went over my head, and then I kinda got it. It’s extra funny since we were the HIMAR unit in Iraq, the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System.

So we had, you know, actual rockets. That was the joke. Okay, I guess you had to be there.

I hear voices out front as I'm finishing up so I padlock the door and snag the spreadsheet to show my new boss lady. I come out and Lizzie looks me over from tip to toe, her lips pursing a little sideways.

“Well, hello there,” she purrs, checking out my arms and shoulders. Bi-curious. Fun stuff. “Are you from Central?”

Jazz's eyes open wide as she stares at me. Apparently she's sending me some kind of psychic message, like maybe I shouldn’t just blurt out why I’m here. Central? What is Lizzie talking about? She means the liquor distributor?

Wait a second. This chick doesn't remember me? Are you fucking kidding me? I am the best lay she almost, nearly had. I can't believe it.

“Yeah, Lizzie… This is Ricki. She's Pops’ daughter.”

“You’re… okay. Pops has another daughter?” I hear the caution in her voice as her sky-blue eyes flicker to Jazz, asking for more information.

“Yeah, Pops’ actual daughter. That he had with his wife."

“Ahhh," Lizzie says, real slow. Her fingers tap on the bar and she inches away from me. Is she already drunk? Or she just always like
