The Swedish-American Contribution

The book Band of Brothers was a bestseller already before it was made into a television mini-series. Richard “Swede” Stockhouse belonged to the same regiment as the soldiers in Band of Brothers and he was only one of approximately 200,000 Swedish-Americans who served in the US Armed Forces during WWII.

Seven of the nine members of the Stockhaus family left Sweden in the beginning of the 1900s to seek a better life in the United States. One of them, John Stockhaus, has already been mentioned in the section on Swedes in the US Army during the First World War. Four of the Stockhaus children served in the Second World War.174
