Every time we turn the ignition on in our cars we emit pollutants that contribute to air pollution and climate change. Although most cities and towns were built for cars, times are changing as cities around the world are rethinking their street plans to allow for more pedestrians, cyclists, and better public transportation. Although it’s still the norm to own a car in most places, it’s becoming simpler and easier for individuals to go car-less. Carsharing programs such as Zipcar, Lyft, Uber, and BlaBlaCar help people get to places that may not be accessible by walking or by public transportation. Lyft also committed to offsetting the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of all their rides. But even if you live somewhere that requires a car to get around, there are many alternative ways to reduce your environmental footprint.
