By the time they returned to camp, it was already dark. Tanner greeted them with an expression of worry.

“Where in the hell have you two been?” he asked. “And why are you both wet?”

“We went swimming,” Jaze answered. “As it happens, Quinn and I both like to swim. In fact, it seems we have a lot in common.”

“Since when did you like swimming?” Tanner gave her a look of confusion.

She shrugged. “Who knows? Maybe I’ll switch from playing basketball to swimming instead.”

“You could have at least come back first to tell us so Tanner wouldn’t worry so much,” Eloise said. “He kept thinking something wrong might have happened to you.”

“Oh, I’m sorry,” she told her. “And I’m sorry, too, for dragging you on this camping trip and being mean to you. I regret it all now.”

“Huh?” It was Eloise’s turn to look confused.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to change. After all, I’m drenched. Dripping wet, in fact.”

She looked at Quinn as she said the last few words, who blushed cutely in response, making her smile.

“Jaze is acting really strange,” she heard Eloise tell Tanner.

“Are you alright, Jaze?” Tanner asked.

“Yup, never better,” she answered without stopping, walking away.

She still liked Tanner, of course. He still was one of her best friends. But now she knew she wasn’t in love with him. He was just someone she was chasing after, a goal she was trying to reach. Now, she realized her heart really belonged to the one who had been chasing after her the whole time.

She smiled, amazed at how much someone could see when they really looked, how much one could hear if only they listened well. Most of all, she was happy, just happy that she was in love with somebody who loved her, too.

The camping trip was not such a bad idea, after all.
