One and a half hour later, Elise was back in her office and working through the rest of the day. She had a great lunch with one of her best friends and looked forward to talking to Roman tonight. Weeks had been rolling by and it felt as if they had known each other for years.

The office phone interrupted Elise's concentration on her current projects. She had two top priority projects that her focus was on, one of which was due this afternoon. Shifting focus for a moment, she picked up without looking at the caller ID and her body reacted to the deep timbre that greeted her.

"Hello, Ms. Payne," Roman said. "How are you doing, beautiful?"

"Hi, Mr. Montgomery, this is an unexpected surprise."

"I couldn't wait to hear your voice, so I took a chance and called."

"I'm glad that you did, handsome," Elise said.

"How was your lunch date with Milan?"

"It was great. I'm glad I got to spend a little time with her today."

"I'm looking forward to meeting your bestie."

"Really, now? What makes you think that you'll be around that long to do so?"

With a mischievous tone to his voice, Roman said, "Sweetheart, I can guarantee you I will be around for a very long time."

Rendered speechless for a few seconds, Elise came back with a quirky response. "Well, I don't see how that's possible when you haven't imprinted on me."

"Mi Bella Elise, I'm not Jacob from Twilight," he began. "Trust me, when I do imprint on you, there's no turning back."

"That sounds like a challenge, and I look forward to rising to it."

"Just so we are clear, I will be the one rising to the challenge," he said, then lowered his voice. "You will be in for a mind-blowing, toe curling ride."

The couple talked for a few more minutes. After ending the call, Elise grabbed her chilled bottle of water and took a drink. Glancing at the clock, she gathered herself together and refocused on the task at hand. She would finish out the workday strong, then head home and take a cold shower. That man, oh that man.
