CHAPTER SIXTEEN

SIERRA

I carry the tub of popcorn while Mona carries the drink carrier as we make our way back to the owner’s box. Sure, we could’ve gotten drinks in there and they probably would’ve gotten snacks for us, but I needed out of there.

Nick and Gordo are entertaining some businessmen who have been complete assholes. They’ve been hitting on my sisters and me, even after Nick introduced me as his girlfriend. They must’ve missed the pregnant belly, or they just don’t care.

Two of the guys, who wore wedding rings by the way, asked Nick and Gordo to introduce them to the cheerleaders afterward. One of them cornered Greta and had the nerve to ask her where else she was pierced.

She laughed it off and made her escape, telling me right away what happened. I told her I’d talk to Nick about it later. I didn’t want to cause trouble, but it was getting ridiculous.

I wish Joaquin would’ve come tonight. He would’ve handled it, I’m sure, but Iris wasn’t feeling well, so he told Mona that she should come, and he’d stay with the kids. We decided to make it a Collins’ sister night out—except Heidi didn’t come.

We step inside and sit with Greta. “Anyone give you any trouble?” I ask as I hand her a soda.

“No.” She looks behind us and then turns back to me. “You know I love Nick, but if he doesn’t get these douche bags out of here I’m going to start kicking asses.”

I look behind me and find Nick and the other men in a huddle looking at something on an iPad. The screen comes into view when one of them moves, and I notice that it’s a scantily-clad woman. “Look at those tits.” My eyes widen because it’s Nick who’s said it.

The pigs all start talking about her like she’s a piece of meat. He looks up and catches me watching him, and he’s got remorse written all over his face. I ignore it and turn around, listening to the sound of his big, dumb laugh.

Okay, it’s not dumb, but he’s pissed me off. This behavior is not the real him, it can’t be. Of course when we first met that’s exactly how he was, so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised he’s acting like this now.

My sisters and I cheer on the Fire to their victory. Colton is an amazing quarterback and so fun to watch, which makes me feel guilty because he broke my baby sister’s heart. The team is undefeated right now, which is good for Nick and Gordo.

After the game, the men head down to the field while we stay up in the box. I rest a hand on my belly as I watch that redhead circle Nick like a Great White shark.

I open my mouth to tell my sisters about it, but shut it. Greta excuses herself and heads to the bathroom while I continue to watch Staci. I hate even admitting that I think she’s beautiful, but she really is.
