The next few days were uneventful. Ceru and I decided to lay low, only going out when we needed to and maintaining our disguised forms at all times. I visited Bori, who spent an entire afternoon showing me what she learned. It turned out Dungeons were very good at puzzles. She was able to use her skills as a Dungeon to transform The Kingâs Jester into a giant puzzle dungeon.
When customers walked in the door, they were greeted with a stairwell that led to a basement. The toy shop didnât originally come with one. Bori bored her way down, clearing the area and doing who knew what with the dirt and rocks. I guess she took after me that way. Next, she made a special door with a runic lock on it. Customers had to figure out a pattern of runes or they couldnât proceed. That included me. I heard her voice as I stared at the glowing symbols on the door.
[Come on, Daddy. You can figure this out. You want to see me, donât you?]
I seriously thought about tunneling around the puzzle and making my own entrance into the store, but I also wanted to encourage her, so I studied the patterns in the runes. The first puzzle was fairly obvious. There was a single piece that was out of place. All I had to do was shift some of the blocks and turn them around until the lines met up.
The second puzzle was a maze. It felt impossibly long, like it ran the span of Dabia. I knew there was magic at play, but I didnât know how it worked. Again, Bori giggled as I tried one passageway and then another. Outside of Primith, I was the only one fortunate enough to hear her voice when she was in Dungeon form. Everyone else had to make it to the shop to be greeted by her avatar. It took me a while to work out a system as I made my way through the maze. First I tried marking the walls as I passed, but then I realized Bori was clearing them off as soon as I was out of sight. In the end, I had to make a map on a piece of parchment to keep track of all the twists and turns. Bori greeted me at the end with a big hug and an even bigger treasure chest.
âYay, Daddy,â she beamed at me. âI knew you could do it.â
âWhatâs this?â I asked, looking past her at the treasure chest.
âThatâs what you get for clearing puzzles,â she said, adding a sly grin as she continued. âI may have added a bit of a bonus for you.â
Sharpener
Rank: C
Attack: +5
Special: Enhance Weapon
âIt will make any weapon with a blade sharper,â Bori said, puffing out her chest with pride. âBut it only works once. Maybe I can make it better when I get stronger.â
âItâs ranked C,â I praised her. âThatâs very good.â
Bori jumped up and down excitedly. âThank you, Daddy. Iâll work hard to get even stronger.
