Boushh’s Helmet

Exiled from his homeworld of Uba IV, records of Boushh’s familial identity and life on his planet were erased when he was cast out by his clan. Forced to wear his armor as a mark of shame, Boushh and a crew of four other outcasts roamed the galaxy in the days of the Empire. A skilled tracker renowned for sneaking up on targets undetected, Boushh soon made a formidable reputation as a bounty hunter.

On the world of Ord Mantell, however, Boushh met his match. During a shootout with the Rebels in an alleyway, Leia disarmed Boushh with her trusty blaster. With the help of R2-D2, Chewbacca, and Maz Kanata, the bounty hunter was rendered unconscious and stripped of his armor. Leia used Boushh’s fatigues as a disguise—the Ubese’s slender build and short stature perfectly suited the 1.5-meter- (5-foot-) tall Rebel. Leia realized it would take more than matching the bounty hunter’s physique to con the scoundrels and low-lifes who knew Boushh best. Helping Lando Calrissian escape bounty hunters on the planet Arkanis gave her the chance to put her undercover abilities to the test. She then disguised herself in Boushh’s armor to infiltrate the palace of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine and rescue Han Solo from his cruel imprisonment in a block of carbonite.

Boushh’s helmet is equipped with a vision-plus scanner; targeting laser; and refined auditory components, including a broadband antenna for receiving transmissions. It also has a metal speech scrambler where the mouth should be. This enabled Leia to address the Hutt in garbled Ubese.

Wearing the helmet and the rest of Boushh’s outfit, even Leia’s closest friends would have had difficulty identifying her, and she managed to fool Jabba. Unfortunately, when Leia sneaked into Jabba’s throne room to free Han, she removed Boushh’s headgear. Jabba and his entourage entered and she was quickly captured.
