1983

INTRODUCTION: After three major new-product introductions for 1982, Chevrolet focused on power train refinements for performance and economy in 1983. Changes included new five-speed manual gear boxes for the Camaro, Chevette and Cavalier, plus a bigger Cavalier engine. All Citations could get the high-output 135-hp V-6 this year. Midyear arrivals included a Cavalier convertible, the Citation X-11 notchback and an available four-speed manual transaxle in the Celebrity. Slated for extinction after 1983, the rear-wheel-drive, six-passenger Malibu was merchandised in a new, single series that appealed to economy-minded buyers. The carryover Malibu offerings were similar to 1982 in body style and power train, but the 305-cid engine became the base V-8 and the 267-cid V-8 was dropped.
