- Chapter 12 -

The night was long, probably longer than the rest. I slept, but hardly. Maybe one or two hours. I dragged my body from the mound of sheets on my bed and headed for the shower. It was temporary relief, but the warmth of the shower was soothing and helped me relax.

I had no idea what was in store for me today. How would the boys react to me seeing what I could only assume, was a deep secret that no one else, with the exception of the girl, should know about. The more I thought about it, the more I thought I recognized her face.

I had only seen her features briefly, and if I was being completely honest with myself, I was looking at the boys more than I was her. It was them I wanted, not her. She would have been our age, perhaps younger. Was she a regular that they turned to whenever they felt like it? Did she have a choice to be there, or was she being put there against her will, the Alderville family abusing their power again?

So many questions raced through my head as I made my way to breakfast. I sat down next to Sierra who had arrived before me. She looked up to me as I sat down, spreading her toast she took a huge bite.

"You look like shit." She stated, her words muffled through peanut butter toast.

"Thanks, I feel it," I replied, sipping on a steaming cup of coffee that I had grabbed on my way over to the bench seat.

"What have you got on today?" Sierra started spreading another slice of wholemeal toast, this time with raspberry jam.

"I don't even know. Hang on." I reached down in my backpack and pulled my diary out. I flicked through the pages, finding my timetable and running my finger across the lesson schedule. "Fuck."

Sierra looked over to me, her eyes narrowing down at my schedule. "What?"

"I've got Diving first." My stomach sank. The worst possible start to the week, diving meant I would get to spend the morning with Thorn. The same Thorn that saw me spying on them last night.

"I thought you were enjoying diving?" Sierra quizzed, taking another bite from her toast as she brushed her blond hair out of the way of her mouth.

"I was. I was enjoying school again until recently. I can't sleep. My school work is piling up and my grades are slipping. I can't keep up." My shoulders slumped and I wrapped my hands around the warmth of my coffee cup.

Sierra reached her hand out and placed it on my lap. "Let's have a study session soon. Not in the library this time. Let's meet in my room."

I nodded. "That actually sounds awesome. Will there be snacks?" I grinned towards her as she exhaled.

"Are you kidding? I bloody live for snacks!" We laughed and finished our breakfast before leaving the Dining Hall and heading off in different directions, Sierra attending English class as I made my way through the gymnasium towards the swimming pool.
