At ten a.m., Sophie was still in bed.

It wasn’t that she was hungover, or even particularly tired, it was that her head was a whirlwind that refused to settle. Luckily, there were no interviews scheduled today—to have to go in and be normal did not seem possible—so she would work from home. She could write up her notes from the recent interviews from right here, the comfort of her bed.

She waited until she heard Victoria—opening and closing every cupboard in the house as she got ready for work, it sounded like—and then Myra, with just the click of the front door, leave the house. She then got up herself and made a cup of coffee while her mind jumped fitfully between Hannah—what should she make of her?—and Roman. They’d said goodbye outside the bar, a slightly drunken hug in which they’d both lingered. He pulled away first and ushered her into her Uber, then waved almost wistfully as she disappeared into the night.

Sophie pressed her phone to her chest. Would he call today?
