Chapter Fifteen
âGood morning, boss.â
Rayden looked up from his drawing. Vivienne stood at the door, brow furrowed.
âYou okay?â she asked.
âMorning, Viv,â Rayden said.
âYou look like hell,â she added.
âThanks for your input.â Rayden huffed. âI didnât sleep very well.â
Viv raised her eyebrows.
âHot sex can do that to you, but if you arrived before I did then it means you actually couldnât sleep.â
âNothing happened between us, if itâs where youâre going with this. Whenâs my first appointment?â he asked, bending his head to analyze his design, hoping Vivienne would get the message.
âThe girls who want the matching pawprints are coming in about an hour, and then thereâs a kid who wants to complete a sleeve but wants some advice and suggestions beforehand. In the afternoon, Adrianna is coming to finish the tiger piece.â
âAll right. Let me know when they get here.â
âYes, boss. Someoneâs cranky,â he heard Vivienne murmur as she left him.
âIâm not cranky,â he shouted. âJust fucking tired,â he mumbled. Rayden rubbed his face. And uncertain on how to deal with the situation. In any other relationship, heâd take the lead, but with Betty he was walking on the thinnest ice. He had enough information about her to know she had to be marked by her life with Antonio. She was interested in him. Last nightâs kiss clearly showed so, but she was also terribly frightened, and it wasnât just of losing her apprenticeship. Heâd told her it wouldnât happen, but she still asked for distance.
Rayden groaned. Now what? Sheâd arrive at any minute, and he didnât know what to do? Act as if nothing had happened? Apologize? Kiss her senseless? Tie her up and beat her until she begged for him to fuck her? All of the above. Rayden looked up at the ceiling. His head pounded.
âHey, Rayden. Betty called. Sheâs sick.â Vivienne gave her a disapproving glare from the doorway.
Rayden swallowed his curse. Heâd scared her off.
âSo sheâs not coming in?â he asked.
âNot unless you want her to make everyone else sick.â
âYeah,â he said slowly. âOkay.â He was a prick of the biggest kind.
âI know itâs not really my business, but as your friend, I gotta ask, what did you do to her?â Vivienne placed her hands on her hips. âI know your lifestyle andââ
âWe kissed,â he interrupted.
âOnly kissed?â
âYes. Thatâs it.â
âWas it awful?â
âBest kiss of my life.â
âSo, she didnât like it.â
âI would say she did, but she was scared. She doesnât want to fuck this apprenticeship up.â
âLooks like it has already been fucked up if she isnât coming, hasnât it?â
âYeah.â Rayden sighed.
âSo what are you going to do?â Vivienne asked.
âI have no idea,â he admitted, wincing.
Vivienne sat down on the nearest chair and stared at him, mouth slack.
âFuck me,â she whispered. âIâve never believed in love at first sight, but clearly it exists.â
Rayden snorted. âDonât be ridiculous. Itâs just, you know, chemistry.â
âMe? Ridiculous? Rayden, if it were just about sex, youâd either be chasing this woman down or youâd already fucked her. You wouldnât be sitting hear moaning about what to do.
