Don’t speak of foolish things in your pretence.

Enough! Don’t speak such proud and boastful words!

How long the pompous, self-important speech?

Look at your deeds and state, and have some shame!

For pride’s repulsive, more so in a beggar,

like wet clothes on a cold and snowy day!

2330 How much more boasting, steaming bluster is there,

O you whose house is like the spider’s web?

When has contentment filled your soul with light?

Contentment is a name that you have learnt.

The Prophet said, “What is contentment? Treasure.”

But you can’t tell this treasure from distress.
