In the Closet

The boat trip lasted a couple more hours. They toured the best bits of the southwest coastline from the Bay of Paguera, Santa Ponsa and Camp de Mer. They veered around the Malgrats Islands where the archipelagic reserve had them spotting local birds and marine life. They sunbathed on the top deck and drank in the ocean through the underwater windows on the bottom deck. The whole thing was magnificent. Having never set foot outside the UK before, Kieran had only ever seen locations like this on the reruns of A Place in the Sun his mum made him watch. Majorca was vivid. Bright. With stunning natural scenery of limestone cliffs and idyllic waters. A far cry from the Yorkshire coastline he’d been brought up by.

It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Well, it could. But Kieran had to stop himself from thinking like that.

The catamaran moored back at Palma and he clambered off the boat last, behind Matt, droplets of sweat and sea water trickling into grooves of his back muscles as they flexed. It was torture. Having such a prime specimen of man as his best friend was his penance for something he’d done in a previous life. He had the most delectable and fuckable man at arm’s length, yet couldn’t ever touch him. Kieran would forever be starved of his craving. Like a diabetic who had to live without sugar, Kieran needed to find a sweetener.

He might have found it when Angel gripped his arm before he jumped from the boat to land and said, “Bambón, come find me later.” He winked, then let Kieran step onto dry land giving one last glance at the Spanish glory.

If there was one thing Majorca had in abundance, it was hot men who seemed to be falling over themselves to have a bit of fun with him. Kieran should’ve been in his element. He should’ve been lapping up every compliment. Every flirtation. Every outright come-on and enjoy it. But he couldn’t.

Why?

Because Matt’s broad shoulders, rolling and tensing, in front of him were his home. And his eyes, the way he looked at Kieran, not as though he were the next piece of meat on an ever-rotating rack, but as if he—Kieran—lit up his entire day.

“Hey, so it’s the stag tonight.” Matt winced as Kieran trotted up beside him and they meandered the main strip of bars and club to their quieter island quarter.

“Lemme guess, I’m not invited.”

“I wasn’t meant to have brought a stag.”

“No, you brought a stallion.” Kieran winked.

Matt laughed. “Sure thing, mate.” He wrapped a meaty arm around his shoulders and Kieran inhaled the musk, the sea, the salty sweat, and his heart wanted to explode. “I’ll get Terence to call ahead. Say there’s one more in this fucking thing they’ve planned.”

Kieran glanced back out to shore where the catamaran chugged away, Angel at the bow. “Don’t worry. It’s fine. There’re things I can do.”

Matt arched an eyebrow, glancing over Kieran’s shoulder. “Things, huh?”

Kieran shrugged, then squirmed out of Matt’s hold.
