SPACE HELMET

Glue squares almost up to the neck of the

balloon, so that it is nearly covered in a layer

of newspaper and glue. L eave the neck area, as it will

be cut away later.

6

Using the plain squares, repeat Steps 3–4.

As before, overlap the edges and go almost

up to the neck of the balloon.

1

Tea r the printed newspaper into about 1½ in

(4 cm) squares. Yo u want torn, rough edges, as

they will blend together well for the papier mâché.

3

In a bowl, mix equal amount s of glue and

water. Working on one sec tion of balloon at

a time, cover it with a layer of overlapping news paper

squares and glue.

5

Repeat Step 1, but this time tearing up the

plain newspaper into squares. Remember, you

want rough edges, not straight ones.

2

Measure the widest part of your head (and

hair). Blow up a round balloon to a circumference

at least 8 in (20 cm) larger than your head’s.

Sit the balloon

in a bowl so

that it is stable

as you work .

The circumference

is the distance all

around the outside

of a circle or sphere.

Using plain paper

helps you s ee

which areas you

have already

done and which

ones you haven’ t.
