We never die

We never die.

We go through the trees in sunlight

hoping to be seen.

We never die.

We amass ourselves in sand dunes

awaiting patiently

the one who will record

our song.

We never die.

We take the wind’s breath

and breathe it slowly

with all the living

with all those

who loved

Each in any way

The leaf bending to its branch,

The moon covering her earth asleep

with the warm worn coverlet

of her long black hair,

The unborn child dancing grateful

to the pulse

of its symphony-womb chamber,

And me,

drawn to the light in your eyes

that speaks colors of winter trees,

new-world skies,

dancing pearl-fetus, and sunrise

seen through the eyes

of the sand.
