Stairs that climbed to the hothouse of desire.

Stairs that went to the crypt of alcohol.

Stairs that went to laws decreeing the decay of red roses,

To the mathematical perception of life.

Stairs that went to the heights of illumination,

Stairs that went to the heights of divine manifestation.

My mother, down below,

Washed teacups in the memories of seashores.

The city was visible.

Its architectural façade: iron, stone, cement.

The pigeon-free roofs of hundreds of buses.

A flower seller putting his flowers on sale.

A poet, setting up a swing between two jasmine trees.

A boy throwing stones at a school wall.

A child spitting an apricot pit on his father’s faded prayer rug.

A goat drinking from the Caspian on the map.
