Authored by Philip B. Start of the Department of Statistics, University of California, Berkeley, the name stands for Statistics Tools for internet and Classroom instruction with a Graphical User interface. It is an introductory course in statistics, very much with a hands-on emphasis, being very interactive inasmuch as the chapters are peppered with opportunities for users to examine their understanding of the text and conduct the tests being discussed. It relies heavily on Java applets and requires IE 4.01 or higher, or Netscape 4.51 to 4.78. At time of access (30 October 2001) the applets would not work with Netscape 6.0 or 6.01 due to its faulty implementation of aspects of JavaScript. There is also a comprehensive Glossary. This is an excellent resource for those whose preference is for learning through interactive examples.
