Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F) fan. Grease a 20cm (8 inch) square baking tin with butter and line with baking parchment.

Put the butter and golden syrup in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Stir until the butter has completely melted, then take off the heat.

Add the soft light brown sugar and stir until the butter and sugar have combined fully.

Add the oats, flour and crushed cornflakes to the pan and stir until combined. (You can mix everything in a mixing bowl if your pan isn’t big enough.) Finally, add the chopped nuts and fruit and stir until they are evenly distributed.

Tip the mixture into the lined tin, then spread level and press it down. Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown. Leave to cool fully before cutting into nine squares. Enjoy!
