a) Loosen the axle nut.

The axle nut must be loosened as otherwise the rear wheel will not move when the sliders are adjusted. The nut should be undone by 2-3 turns to release pressure on the wheel from the swing arm and allow the wheel to ‘twist’ (if you do not have a torque wrench then take note of how many turns were used to undo the axle nut).

b) Adjust the swing arm sliders.

There are many different versions of sliders, however all of them have a locknut and an adjustment nut. Two common sliders are shown below.
