Tossing It

Whether you wish to have a new relationship that involves commitment, a friendship, or a bit of fun and passion, like an artist who requires a blank canvas or fresh paper, you need to create a clean environment on which to build the relationship that you desire. Here are practical tips that will help you produce a firm foundation for love and are also of great assistance if you’re trying to move the dregs of an old relationship out of your life.

• Throw away all circular objects from past, unhappy relationship experiences. A circle holds power, and therefore any bracelets, earrings, necklaces, rings, anklets, cups, or other practical round objects contain a living-energy record of old relationships. If you must keep whatever it is, sit down and consider why you truly want to save that object. After careful thought, you may realize that you are hampering yourself by hanging on to old hopes, fears, or pain. If the object is so valuable that you feel you have no choice (you do, but hey . . .) and it is metal, you can boil the object, douse it with vinegar, then freeze it for forty-eight hours. Put the object in a safe deposit box (out of the house or apartment). While you’re at it, pitch anything else you haven’t used in eons. Rule of thumb: if you haven’t touched it in two years, lose it.

• Don’t forget old photographs. If you went on a trip to the Bahamas with Harold and he physically abused you there, why are you keeping those vacation photos? If your wife ran off with your best friend and you are left with wedding pics and the cake topper with the little bride and groom . . . again, why are you keeping that stuff? Douse with one cap of rubbing alcohol and three drops of vinegar. Put in a fireproof pot. Stand back. Burn ’em. Chant: “Be gone from whence you came. Do not return again.”

• A spiritual shower to remove negativity is always a good idea. Before you shower, cut one fresh lemon and one fresh lime in half. Hold your hands over the fruit before entering the shower. Ask for the removal of negativity and the blessings of universal love. After your usual soap and rinse, squeeze the juice from the fruit over your body, breathe deeply and contemplate clearing your body of negativity, then think of bringing forth universal love. Rinse. This shower is especially effective if you bathe in candlelight, and it’s great for a weekly pick-me-up or whenever you feel blue. Top models carry lemons in their bags as a skin refresher and toner, and lemon water is a great breath freshener, too! Follow with spiritual smudging using the smoke of sage or benzoin incense.
